About AI iN Christian Music

There is much criticism of music and lyrics produced by AI, and, of course, if I could produce the music from my own and others musical skills I would love to. But the Broken Pew Music songs originate from, and are immersed in,  Scripture. I wouldn't dare try to alter Scripture. I add to that my own life experience, which at 67 years has been both wonderful, and troubled. There's no difference there compared to other songwriters, other than that I'm not looking to make a profit, even cover my costs, so I'm not limited to easy-going songs.

 AI actually adds to the depth and range of the songs as researching Scripture, before fact checking, is so much easier, and sometimes I'll ask AI to suggest a Bible passage, and from it will come another song. Four Men At The Gate, was just such a song.

When it comes to adding the music to the lyrics the gain is being able to try different tunes, instruments, and genres, without calling in multiple bands, orchestras, singers, to see which Is best. Financially and practically that would be impossible. Instead I pray and spend hours commissioning, checking, and rewriting lyrics, then hours working to get the best fit for the lyrics. I have the time to do this, and have been a Christian for nearly 40 years, including working with addicts and broken children. I believe all of this, most of all the Scriptures and the leading of the Holy Spirit, make for some great songs. 

In response to some of the songs there have been some very generous comments including "Makes me feel the love of the Lord God", "As a prayer warrior this music moves me deeply". Should I not have helped my listeners?

The range of songs is from praise and worship to helping the victims of child abuse. Where else do you find that?

The majority of the top 10 selling Christian songs are from bands promoted by secular companies, especially one owned by Sony. The results can be some great sounds, but not daring to encourage personal, Biblical, growth. Add to that that most Christians don't pick up their Bible from one day to another makes Broken Pew songs, which are immersed in Scripture, even more valid. 

Finally, the songs are free to download for personal use or for playing in church. God says "Freely you have received, freely give." Matthew 10:8. It wouldn't be affordable to give the songs away if so many live musicians were involved.

So I'm sorry that lyricists and musicians feel challenged by AI, but so long as I'm alive I will share the loving Word of God, and if that involves AI, so be it for it's not the messenger that's anything like so important, as the message.
